As a neurodivergent person, who has worked in education for over 29 years, I understand the needs and importance of creating more positive outcomes within education environments (for both staff and students).
Welcome to my website and thank you for visiting.
I qualified as a teacher in 1996 and have gone on to work in both mainstream and SEND learning environments.
I am neurodivergent with lived experience of autism, and significant traits of OCD and situational mutism.
I was diagnosed with type 2 EDS many years ago.
My life goal is to support the promotion and understanding of all SLCN issues within education, work and family environments and I am happy to help anyone find solutions to their communication challenges.
I am passionate about working alongside Children, Young People and adults whose needs are SEND / Neurodiversity. This could be diagnosed or undiagnosed primary needs and with co-morbid diagnoses.
I have extensive knowledge of working with many families and children, young people over the years who have a variety of needs, whether profound needs, language needs, social communication needs, specific learning needs, SEMH and autistic spectrum conditions.
I have worked in a variety of SEND settings including primary and secondary specific learning difficulties, profound multiple learning difficulties, complex communication needs and for RNIB for students who had learning differences and a visual impairment. I have, alongside this worked in an ASD residential setting.
I have worked for Local Authorities as both Advisory Teachers and as Service Managers supporting schools, children & young people and families as well as developing resources and training specific SLCN courses, and leading advisory teachers and home based outreach services.
I have run my own business supporting schools & businesses, training, speaking on SEND and all things on communication for over four years and continue to develop what I offer and how to support everyone I meet. It is a continuous development.
I support through extensive training opportunities, offer staff self-evaluation audits for school and strategic development, complete assessments with CYP for schools and homes with outcomes. Alongside this I support with school resources and development of these and supportive conversations with education staff.
Thank you, Jo
